As the media becomes increasingly saturated with the same overused cartoon styles and boring motion graphics, it is extremely vital to give artists who are pushing boundaries and expressing their singular visions a chance to show their work. The beautiful free-for-all era of bizarre internet cartoons has been replaced by Skibidi-toilet and corporate viral tiktok garbage, and animation that takes time and effort and love cannot compete. We must find ways to innovate outside of the processes we are taught, and imagine the animation medium beyond what we are familiar with. Nightshades seeks to highlight work that exists purely for the vision of the artist, outside any institution, industry, or corporate agenda. Now is the time to fight against the algorithm machines to keep animation alive as an artform!
